Learning is free and so is Education.

Do you know how Elon Musk figured out how to get into space? He read a book about rockets. The man who wrote the book developed his ideas while he was actually working on the project with just a theory but there wasn't anyone else even thinking about alternative vessels to get off the Earth because there wasn't any money. We were using the same design created in the sixties, fifty years later. Even the light bulb has changed since then. So here was this genius giving up his life to fail over and over again at a new design because there wasn't anyone else working on it because no one could afford to. Elon Musk didn't worry about how much it was going to cost as long as it was forefront in the minds of humanity.
Learning is free and so is Education. Thinking is costly. People who create don't do so by following someone else's ideas but those credentials depended upon it.
So how can you get sheepskin for free at any age? If I had a school-age child to educate the four-year degree would be easy. In eighth grade, the child would be taking summer school for high school subjects. Electives and activities would be enjoyed and developed while in school because that's where the scholarships come from. The child would get the mandatory basics accumulated in two years so they can be in the early admissions program and finish their last two years in high school accumulating college credit. The child would prep for the SATs and ACTs to get the highest score possible even if the test is taken more than once. After high school, the College placement test would be taken to skip some college courses. Two years of college are paid for by the bright futures funds which can be applied to a four-year degree. During this time scholarships are applied not only from the government but private enterprises. This is the group that works for the local grocery store or coffee shop. Many companies have their own matching funds programs. It's time for the internships. Although this method sounds ridged it actually is quite enjoyable because school is for the social game and not for academics. That's where the scholarships are. If you followed this, high school is finished in two years, college in two to three years, masters in two years and PH'd while working. A doctorate by 20 for free while having fun.
As for what I did to get a free education I did the early admission part while working as a waitress at thirteen. My father died which almost derailed me but my college friends took me to class with them and no one knew I wasn't old enough to be there. I audited a few classes which I paid for. I shared textbooks with my friends. By the time I was sixteen I was already making enough money to support myself but I was still tethered to high school even though I had a year of college down. Then I found the ultimate way of getting college paid for. I had a baby. So I strapped her to my back and went to class. I worked at a daycare and changed my major to education specifically early childhood development and got work experience credit from the daycare and wrote my essays about raising my daughter. I wasn't really smart enough to get my master's nor mature enough to get my doctorate but my daughter was reading by two and a half and graduating with two degrees by twenty all while enduring a brain tumor. She kept being promised scholarships but was denied at the last minute because of circumstances. She tutored for free while I was paying for private school. She's still constantly going to school even at 44.
What kind of education do you want? Do you want to just make more money? Do you want to start your own business? Maybe it's a skill set you're looking for? The obvious is to go to youtube but there are some low-cost programs you can join like teachable, skillshare, and udemy. University of the People online is free except for testing and entrance fee. The professors are from the highest-ranking universities in the world. You can receive an accredited degree. Then there is Khan Academy if you didn't learn algebra in high school or if you're ready for calculus it's never too late. You can go to Harvard and Yale online for free. Both offer business courses online to boost your knowledge. Maybe you need hands-on training. Local colleges offer some basic skills programs for free, even the GED. Career one stop and score have one on one mentoring volunteers.
The most valuable knowledge to learn which can get you a high-paying job is language. Most languages can be learned in 20 hours for conversation. I know there's a translator app for that. Language moves your brain because it produces sound frequency. Language can actually change your way of thinking and open you up to new experiences. I understand that language is not easy for adults to learn because it involves muscle memory which has already been established and finding someone who can converse would be difficult. However, learning a new language is an achievement that will last forever.
Whatever you decide to do, keep learning. It keeps you alive.
